For many people, purchasing a home is the largest single purchase they make in their lifetime. According to a study by the Canadian Association of Accredited Mortgage Professionals, the average Canadian will own 4.5 to 5.5 homes in their lives. This means that if your average home buying span is 40 years (for example, age 25-65) then the average Canadian homeowner moves every 7-9 years. Additionally, a financial security report published by Statistics Canada in 2016, states that the principal residence is the largest asset held by Canadians.

The decision to make a move is a highly personal one and is driven by lifestyle needs, such as proximity to work for commuting or changing family size or the schooling needs of children, to name just a few. Our homes are where we make memories and form attachments through the course of daily life. Combine these facts with the size of financial commitment, and making a move becomes highly emotionally charged and stressful.

So, choosing to hire a REALTOR® is choosing to hire a professional with specialized expertise, who is legally bound to work in your best interests, to guide you through a process that the average Canadian only undertakes a handful of times throughout their adult life. A REALTOR® also provides valuable insight on the state of the current real estate market, which is in a constant state of flux. Many factors cause this flux by affecting supply and demand, such as economic forces, government regulations, global events, etc. And lastly, a REALTOR® can help you wade through the many emotions involved, to manage this significant investment with as much objectivity as possible. Besides being trained in negotiation tactics, a REALTOR® is essentially your poker face in the negotiation and act as a buffer with the other side to prevent run away emotions from compromising your position. There will always be some stress involved in such a significant undertaking, but hiring a REALTOR® enables you to minimize that and maximize your results, in order to achieve your personal goals with any move
